Frank Huyghe is a French entrepreneur and professional diver best known as the founder and CEO of the watch brand RALF TECH. Born in Paris in 1963, Huyghe’s professional life has been defined by a lifelong connection to the ocean and a passion for horology that began during his adolescence.
Huyghe began his career as a professional diver at the age of 20, eventually becoming a certified scuba diving instructor in the 1980s. His early expertise focused on the exploration of sunken wrecks and technical diving. In 1996, he founded RALF TECH, initially establishing the company as a manufacturer of professional scuba diving equipment. The brand’s name reflects its origins in “technological” gear and “technical” (or “tek”) diving, which requires specialized equipment for extreme depths.
Under Huyghe’s leadership, RALF TECH transitioned from diving gear toward horology in the mid-2000s. The brand gained international recognition in 2005 when the WR1, the first watch designed by Huyghe, accompanied diver Pascal Bernabé during a world-record autonomous dive to -330 meters. This success solidified the brand’s identity as a manufacturer of “mission-ready” tool watches capable of performing in extreme environments.
In 2008, Huyghe redirected the company’s focus exclusively to watchmaking. He has maintained a philosophy of independence, ensuring RALF TECH remains family-owned and free from traditional marketing dictates. His approach emphasizes authenticity and innovation, often testing products personally, including a test flight with the French Space Agency (CNES) to validate equipment for space environments.
Huyghe’s leadership is noted for its adaptability and commitment to humanitarian efforts. During a mission in Bolivia, he famously redirected his team to assist local populations after a natural disaster, an action for which he received decorations from the United Nations and the Bolivian government.
Today, Huyghe continues to lead RALF TECH from its headquarters in Paris. His work involves overseeing the design and development of various collections, such as the WRX, WRV, and “The Beast,” which are utilized by elite military units, including the French Navy’s Commando Hubert. His career remains a fusion of his two primary passions: the technical challenges of the underwater world and the precision of mechanical watchmaking.
