Albert Grebler was a Polish entrepreneur and co-founder of the Swiss watch brand Cauny. Born into a Polish family, Grebler and his siblings, Henry and Mireille, were forced to flee Poland at the start of World War I, eventually settling in the horological center of La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. This relocation immersed the family in the region’s deep watchmaking traditions, providing the foundation for their future business endeavors.
In 1927, Albert co-founded the Cauny watch brand alongside his two siblings. While his sister Mireille remained in Switzerland to lead the company as one of the first female heads of a watch brand, Albert and Henry took on more adventurous roles to establish the brand’s international presence. The brothers famously sailed passenger ships across the Mediterranean, traveling from port to port to introduce Cauny timepieces to new markets. This entrepreneurial spirit helped define the brand’s “nautical soul” and successfully established a strong foothold in Spain, Portugal, and North Africa. Albert Grebler’s efforts were instrumental in realizing the founders’ vision of providing high-quality, elegantly designed analog watches to a wide audience.
