Supra Rub

Supra Rub is an independent French watch brand that has recently emerged in the horological landscape, specifically focusing on the production of professional diving instruments. The company was founded in 2023 and is based in Marseille, a city with a deep-rooted maritime history that significantly influences the brand’s identity. Supra Rub positions itself as a bridge between traditional Swiss watchmaking precision and the rugged requirements of underwater exploration.

The brand was established by an enthusiast who grew up in Marseille’s historic Le Panier district during the late 1970s. Surrounded by a community of fishermen, sailors, and divers, the founder developed a fascination with the robust timepieces these maritime professionals wore as essential tools for their work. This upbringing in a nautical environment, combined with a long-standing passion for horology, served as the primary inspiration for launching a brand dedicated to professional diving watches.

The name Supra Rub carries personal and symbolic significance for the founder. Its first collection is named Aurora, which was the name of a fishing boat built by the founder’s grandfather. In Latin, Aurora refers to the dawn, symbolizing new beginnings and hope. Other design elements, such as the stars on the dial intended to represent a guide for night travelers, and specific engravings on the case back, further emphasize the brand’s narrative of personal history and adventure.

One of the key reasons enthusiasts are drawn to Supra Rub is its commitment to Swiss-made quality standards. Despite its French roots and Mediterranean inspiration, the brand ensures its timepieces meet rigorous technical specifications. By utilizing Swiss manufacturing and movements, the brand appeals to collectors who prioritize mechanical reliability and precision in a segment often crowded by aesthetic-only microbrands.

The brand has gained further credibility through its association with prominent figures in the diving world. Scuba diver and adventurer Henri Cosquer serves as the brand ambassador. Cosquer is internationally recognized for his discovery of the prehistoric underwater cave in the calanques of Marseille, now known as the Cosquer Cave. The collection features a case back engraved with the name of the cave and signed by Cosquer, establishing a direct link to authentic maritime exploration.

The core of the Supra Rub catalog is the Aurora series, a professional automatic diver’s watch water-resistant to 300 meters. The watch features a 42.5 mm 316L stainless steel case with a thickness of 13.3 mm and a lug-to-lug distance of 46.5 mm. These dimensions are designed to provide a substantial presence on the wrist while remaining functional for active diving use. The construction includes a screw-down crown and case back to ensure its high water resistance rating.

Technical specifications of the Aurora collection include the use of the Swiss automatic Sellita SW200 movement. This caliber is a staple in the industry, known for its high precision and reliability, featuring 26 jewels, a frequency of 28,000 vibrations per hour, and a 38-hour power reserve. The movement is also equipped with an Incabloc shock absorber, enhancing the watch’s durability against the physical impacts often encountered during professional use.

The aesthetic and functional details of the Aurora models include a unidirectional rotating ceramic bezel with 120 clicks. For legibility in low-light underwater environments, the bezel graduations, dial numerals, hour markers, and hands are coated with BGW9 Grade A Super-LumiNova. The dial is protected by a slightly domed sapphire crystal with an internal anti-reflective coating, ensuring clarity and resistance to scratches.

The inaugural collection is divided into two distinct aesthetic versions: the Daylight and the Darkside. The Daylight model features a sunburst gray and grained blue dial, while the Darkside model utilizes a sunburst gray and grained black combination. These pieces are released as limited editions, with a total production run typically restricted to 200 numbered pieces—100 for each dial color—making them targeted toward collectors seeking exclusivity.

In summary, Supra Rub represents a fusion of Marseille’s maritime heritage and Swiss technical expertise. By focusing on a single, high-specification professional diving model endorsed by a legendary diver, the brand has established a clear niche for itself. As the company prepares for its initial deliveries in late 2025, it continues to attract attention for its blend of personal storytelling and uncompromising tool-watch specifications.
