Straum

Straum is a Norwegian watch brand founded in 2020 by industrial designers Lasse Roxrud Farstad and Øystein Helle Husby. Based in Oslo, the founders are alumni of the Oslo School of Architecture and Design and draw heavy inspiration from Norway’s raw natural landscapes. The brand’s design philosophy centers on blending Scandinavian industrial aesthetics with rugged functionality, often incorporating textures found in Norwegian nature, such as glaciers and volcanic rock, into their custom-stamped dials.

Collectors are often drawn to Straum for its high degree of design and engineering autonomy, as the founders design and engineer all products in-house with a focus on quality finishing. The brand is also recognized for its use of Swiss-made movements, such as those from La Joux-Perret, and its commitment to technical details like custom-engineered micro-adjust clasps and integrated bracelet designs.

The brand’s catalog is defined by several key collections: – Opphav: The debut model featuring a signature floating dial and integrated bracelet design, initially using Sellita movements.
– Jan Mayen: A collection inspired by the remote volcanic island, featuring movements from La Joux-Perret (LJP G101) with a 68-hour power reserve and available in materials like grade 5 titanium.
– Jan Mayen Basalt: A limited edition series with dials crafted from basalt rock collected by the founders during an expedition to Jan Mayen.
– Rastarkalv: A limited edition timepiece distinguished by a dial made from 3,300-year-old fossilized wood sourced from Norway.
