The brand is headquartered in France and draws significant inspiration from its founders’ background in international sports, specifically fencing, to inform its design language and technical standards.
The brand was founded by brothers Clément and Auxence Dorigo. Both are former international fencing champions for the French national team, with several titles on the international stage. Their transition into watchmaking was driven by a shared lifelong passion for mechanics and design. Auxence brings an engineering background to the partnership, focusing on creation and mechanics, while Clément serves as the brand’s watch designer. Together, they aim to create timepieces that reflect the precision, strength, and rigor required in elite competition.
Atelier Dorigo has gained attention for its commitment to “Origine France” production and its “new generation” workshop philosophy. Rather than concentrating all expertise in-house, the brand orchestrates a network of over 15 specialized French manufacturers. These partners, located primarily in the historic watchmaking regions of the Doubs—including Besançon, Morteau, and Villers-le-Lac—supply components such as hands, dials, movements, and cases. This collaborative approach allows the brand to leverage centuries of regional expertise while ensuring high manufacturing standards.
The brand’s debut and flagship offering is the Accierra collection, a name derived from the Italian “accierrare,” meaning to seize or accelerate. This collection is defined by its architectural 36mm square case, which is notably slim at 9.05mm. The cases are crafted from 316L recycled stainless steel and feature a combination of hand-polished and satin finishes. A key technical distinction of the Accierra is its movement: an automatic caliber from France Ebauches. This movement is sent to the Besançon Observatory to receive the “Tête de Vipère” (Viper’s Head) chronometer certification, a prestigious hallmark reserved for timepieces that pass rigorous precision testing.
Within the Accierra collection, two specific models serve as the brand’s key pieces. The Aurion features a steel dial with fine black stripes, designed to symbolize the rebirth of day and the dawning of light. Its counterpart, the Ecliptica, features a deep black dial inspired by celestial eclipses, utilizing steel reflections to represent the sun’s rays piercing through darkness. Both models utilize a sandwich-style dial construction to add depth and incorporate design elements like a grooved bezel and handcrafted French calfskin straps. The initial launch of the Aurion was produced as a limited series of 100 numbered pieces.
